Architectural historians think highly of it: Nikolaus Pevsner counted it among Yorkshire's largest and stateliest churches, Simon Jenkins rated it the county's best work, and Alec Clifton-Taylor called it the 'glory of Rotherham'. Its tall spire makes it the town's most prominent landmark and one of the tallest churches in Yorkshire.
